The Saint Lucia Hotel and Tourism Association (SLHTA) celebrates Tourism Awareness Week 2012 with the establishment of a new initiative aimed at educating and supporting students pursuing culinary and/or home economics studies in local Secondary and Tertiary Schools on the island.

The Chefs in Schools Programme is an initiative which will involve a school visit by a Chef of the Saint Lucia National Culinary Team to speak with students aspiring to careers in culinary arts. The visiting Chef will share career highlights, past experiences and industry information with students and guide them in a practical preparation of a dish using local ingredients.

The experience is designed to raise the awareness of students about local cuisine and encourage students to use more local ingredients in the preparation of healthy meals. The programme commenced on October 24th 2012 and involve five secondary schools in the first phase.
