SLHTA welcomes first Goodwill Ambassador back home

The air was fueled with an anticipation of enthusiasm as we awaited our Star, St. Lucia’s high Jumper Levern Spencer who arrived on Delta Airlines on the afternoon of Monday October 21st 2019, fresh from her Pan American Games where she won gold. She walked into the VIP Lounge at the Hewanorra International airport accompanied by her Manager Mr. Gregory Dickson ‘as cool as a cucumber, poised to meet the primed media personnel adorned with their cameras for that perfect shot of her entrance. she smiled as she was greeted with the flashing lights and ‘click, click’ sounds made by an instrument which gave many a glimpse into her life, pausing for a moment and moving on to greet her mother and other family members and friends.
The proceedings began with the welcoming remarks by SLHTA’S Ms. Yola St. Jour and board director Mr. Kirk Elliott who shed clarity on why she was chosen as SLHTA’S Goodwill Ambassador. Levern he said, was chosen for her humility, gentleness, and ‘irieness’ which he thought is the perfect embodiment of a Goodwill Ambassador. He also went on to thank her for being an Ambassador for St. Lucia and the youth making her the first person to be bestowed with that title from the SLHTA. He encouraged us all to be more ‘Levernesk’ and to always be the best. Also paying tribute to her achievement were the Permanent Secretary of Youth & Sports Mr. Benson Emile and Deputy Permanent Secretary Ms. Suzette Jean in the Ministry of Tourism.
Miss Spencer humbly accepted the honor of Goodwill Ambassador, something she says she will forever hold in high esteem, for when she was first informed her initial reaction was surprise and curiosity as to what her role will be regarding the partnership, however she has since been briefed and is excited envisaging the year ahead. The SLHTA is thrilled at Miss Spencer’s acceptance and foresees a rewarding partnership ahead.
