Meet CHTA’s New President
Patricia Affonso Dass
Patricia Affonso-Dass is CHTA’s third female president following in the footsteps of Mrs. Berthia Parle and outgoing President Mrs Karolin Troubetzkoy.
Affonso-Dass, a graduate of Florida International University’s School of Hospitality and Tourism Management is also a leading hotelier. She is the General Manager for the Ocean Hotels Group, comprising of three unique hotels: Ocean Two Resort & Residences, the four diamond oceanfront venue on Dover Beach; Sea Breeze Beach Hotel, the all-inclusive hotel on Maxwell Coast Road; and South Beach Hotel, the chic boutique hotel near Rockley Beach.
Ms. Affonso-Dass served as president of both the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana and the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA). During Patricia’s role as President of BHTA, one of her key achievements was her involvement in the amendment of the Tourism Development Act to truly recognize Tourism as an Export Industry granting licensed Hotel and Tourism operators an exemption from the duties and taxes payable for the local purchase or importation of supplies including food, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, consumables and supplies required for the operation or development of a tourism product or tourism project.
Ms. Patricia’s Affonso-Dass’ presidency will last for two years.
CHTA President Gets Praised as She Leaves Office
As the fourth Caribbean Hospitality Industry Exchange Forum (CHIEF) gets under way in Miami this weekend, the CEO of the Caribbean’s largest private sector organization is paying tribute to one of its leaders for uniting the region in the aftermath of last September’s hurricanes. Frank Comito, CEO and Director General of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA), lauded the leadership of outgoing CHTA President Karolin Troubetzkoy of St. Lucia for her protection and promotion of the Caribbean brand and also for her personal and corporate support of destinations that were severely impacted by last year’s twin storms. Speaking ahead of the official opening of CHIEF at the Hyatt Regency Miami, Comito described Troubetzkoy’s presidency as “pervasive and powerful” – from addressing the Zika epidemic, immediately upon taking the reins of the organization, to helping Caribbean people put their lives back together after Hurricanes Irma and Maria ripped communities apart… READ MORE
